As counselor at Bluff Park Elementary, I get the opportunity to work with every student and I love meeting and getting to know your children.
In guidance class, we start the year out talking about the Skills for Learning (focusing attention, listening, self-talk, and being assertive). We're also learning about Empathy. When you understand how others are feeling, it helps you treat everyone with respect. Being respectful is a very important value at Bluff Park. Other topics coming up this year include, managing strong feelings, problem solving, considering different perspectives, making good choices (Red Ribbon Week), and careers.
I also offer individual and small group counseling on an as needed basis through parent and teacher referrals. Small groups focus on leadership, social skills, self-esteem, self-control, and grief/loss. If you'd like more information about the guidance program and its services, please feel free to call or e-mail me. Click here to refer your child for counseling, click here.
If your child is involved in community service projects, we want to hear about it. Helping someone outside your family without getting paid is how we define community service. Whether it's raking leaves for a neighbor, picking up trash at the park, or serving with your church or scout group, we love to hear about students helping in our community.
